2011-12 STEPS' ANNUAL GOALS

Parenting a child with learning difficulties can feel like a lonely journey. It can sometimes seem as though there are two worlds: the one that other moms and dads at your child’s school inhabit, and the isolated and often frustrating one you live in. But, STEPS is here to change all of that!

WHO ARE WE ?
STEPS is a support group for parents and educators who are involved with and concerned about children with special needs and/or learning difficulties in the Haddon Heights School District serving the communities of Barrington, Haddon Heights and Lawnside. We were founded over 15 years ago by a group of concerned parents interested in reaching out and making connections for the benefit of all children with special needs.

STEPS operates on these two principles:
1) Parents are a child's best advocates.
2) Parents have a right and responsibility to oversee their child's educational program.

With these in mind, STEPS provides speakers, workshops and support sessions for parents so that they may gain the knowledge and confidence they need to ensure their child's highest level of achievement.

WHO SHOULD CONTACT STEPS ?
• Parents who suspect their child may have special learning needs
• Parents who have questions about their child’s needs, from the most mildly impaired to the most significantly challenged
• Parents who want up-to-date information on Special Ed programming, IEPs, and Section 504 Plans
• Parents of children with ADHD or other health or emotional challenges that impact upon their child’s education
• Parents who want to network with other parents of children with special needs
